Used vs. limit

Record what is used—not just what is available.

Slack reports message and file counts rather than one universal byte-size total. Combine them with active members and retention settings.

Historical coverage

Storage size does not equal record age.

Visible history depends on plan and retention. Keep the selected analytics window with every total.

Troubleshooting

Common reasons your screen may differ.

Only a short period is available+

Record the exact period and do not extrapolate it to lifetime volume.

Analytics is missing+

Ask a workspace owner for aggregate counts rather than content access.

Later-stage process

Prepare or export data only after authorization.

Slack workspace export

Slack exports are permission- and plan-dependent. Confirm channel and conversation scope first.

Permissions and safeguardsObtain workspace-owner approval and review plan, legal, retention, and private-conversation restrictions.

Typical output: ZIP archive containing JSON and file links, depending on plan and scope.
